Why preset names are not enough when you are looking for a sound
Preset libraries are full of evocative names, but they are a poor way to remember and rediscover the sound you actually need.
Preset names are great at setting a mood. They are not great at helping you find the patch you heard three weeks ago.
A name rarely describes the important part
“Neon Horizon” might be a soft pad in one synth, a harsh lead in another, or a bass with a long release. Once a library grows past a few hundred patches, browsing names becomes less like an organizing system and more like a lucky dip.
The useful memory is often sonic: bright but not sharp, hollow in the middle, slow to open, or close to the sound in a reference clip.
Build a smaller first library
You do not need every installed instrument in your first Presetti library. Start with the synths you use in a current project. A smaller, familiar library makes it easier to learn what kind of results you get from a sound search.
