Record a sound or import a file
Search with your own sound. Record it through your microphone or import a WAV, FLAC or AIFF file, then pick the 3 seconds Presetti compares.
Before you start
- Your library has at least one built synth.
Along the bottom of the Search tab is the strip for searching with your own sound.

Record a sound
- Click Record. The button turns into Stop and counts the seconds.
- Play the sound into your microphone, for example a synth through your speakers or an instrument.
- Click Stop when you have it. A recording can be up to 30 seconds.
Presetti uses the microphone chosen in Settings > Audio.
Import a file
Click Import and choose a WAV, FLAC or AIFF file up to 10 minutes long. Any sample rate works, and mono is fine.
Pick the part to search
Presetti compares 3 seconds of your sound. For a longer clip, a gold 3-second window appears, starting where the note starts. Drag it to another part if you like, and use the mouse wheel to zoom in, the same as in a DAW.
Tips for better matches
- Single notes match best. Any note from C2 to C5 works, and a C held for about 2 seconds is ideal.
- Every sound in the library is a single note, so a chord is matched on its tone only. The results say so when they hear a chord.
- Matches come from built presets. If you tweaked a preset and didn't save it, there may be no exact match in your library.
Play the results
Results play at your clip's pitch. The first play of each result takes a second or two, then it's instant. The clip bar shows the note it heard, for example "Results play at E1". If that's wrong, pick another note there.
Your clip stays while you explore. Clicking a preset folds it into one line at the bottom, and Search with it brings it back with the same part selected.
Find presets that sound alike
Click any preset on the Search tab to list the presets in your library that sound most like it, closest first, then play and open them.
Filter results and save favorites
Narrow the preset list and the similar-sound results to some synths or to your favorites, and export your favorites as a CSV shortlist.
